#UnboxPossibilities with @Unicef this holiday season

The kids are off from school, holiday movies are playing and eggnog is on sale everywhere. It’s official. The holidays are here. If you’re reading this, you obviously have an internet connection, can read and are relatively safe. This makes you more fortunate than most people in the world. While it’s nice to give and receive gifts, why not look to find that special someone the perfect holiday gift and #unboxpossibilities.

For less money than most of us probably spend on coffee, meals out or the movies each month, you can make a difference in the lives of so many. If you’re looking for a last minute gift for that special someone who seems to have everything already, head over to givesurvival.ca, select from over 60 life-saving items to help save a child and help save lives. Every Survival Gift is guaranteed to help children around the world survive and thrive.

Over the holidays many of us get together with friends and family whether that means eating out, attending a potluck of having company over it all adds up. Imagine, for only $43 you can purchase a Survival Food Kit from Unicef Canada and help families in times of crisis when they are cut off from food supplies. The survival kid comes with 60 packets of Plumpy’Nut, 60 powdered milk sachets and 60 micronutrient powder sachets.

For a child in need, clean water, medicine and basic nutrition can literally make the difference between life and death. According to Unicef, 17,000 children die every DAY from preventable causes. As a parent that breaks my heart. At this time of year so many of us give and receive gifts we may not necessarily need when there are children dying because they are not getting life’s essentials.

  1. I just teared up reading this. What a great program. I’ll be sure to look into it with my little one. I really want her to learn the joy of giving especially to other kids who don’t even have their basic needs met.

  2. This year I opted to support World Vision Canada because I travelled with them and I worked along side them seeing what they do in the field directly to build sustainable communities for children. At the same time I am very aware there are many other amazing NGOs working hard to help ensure children live and experience a healthy life. Unicef is one of those. I think the important thing this Christmas and every time of year is the emphasis on giving whether you give to Unicef or World Vision or Plan Canada even. The important thing is that we all help each other and give as much as we are able.

  3. I always support UNICEF when the kids bring trick or treating UNICEF boxes around each year. I didn’t know how to support them during other times of the year, so this is great to know about.

  4. I have donated to Unicef in the past. Right now we have a boy in Guatemala through Child International that we sponsor. Its a great feeling to know our monthly donation helps him and his family.

  5. This is really a great cause. I say get out and support a charity or two this year, whatever your choice is. My husband and I just chose a few charities and made our donations and it is the best Christmas gift I could give myself.

  6. I agree with you, as a parent it breaks my heart too, to hear the stories of children who don’t have basic essentials like clean water. Charities like UNICEF are wonderful because they really can help make a positive impact/difference.

  7. It’s sad that in this day and age, children are ding of preventable causes, with the abundance of money and the ability to reach remote places. This is such a great idea!
