Warm milk, honey and memories of my childhood #ad

Some of my fondest memories of bedtime as a child consist of putting on snuggly warm pyjamas, cuddling with my mom and sipping away at a cup of warm milk with honey in it. It was the magic potion of my childhood. It would lull me into a blissful slumber with my eyes shutting often before the mug was done. The last sip would always be the yummiest as that’s where tiny bits of honey would settle. When I was younger, my dad would sometimes scoop me up and carry me to bed where I would drift off to sleep before I knew it.

It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I learnt of many of the health benefits of honey. After I had my son, my step mom introduced me to warm milk with honey, a pinch of turmeric and a mixture of ground almonds and cardamom. It would instantly give me energy and helped me gain back my strength much faster than the first time around. It was an old family recipe from the Indian sub-continent. Generations of women had used it to heal and recover after childbirth.

Over the years, I have switched up the recipe, sometimes substituting cow’s milk for almond milk or lactose free if that’s what we had on hand but the honey has always been a must. It didn’t take much, just under a teaspoon would do the trick.

There have been times where I’ve been away at conferences, on press trips or visiting family but after a long day, nothing hits the spot quite like some steamed milk with honey. I’ve had friends poke fun at it, surprised that as an adult I’ve continued with the ritual of warm milk and honey before bed but it never bothers me. I know a good thing when I see it.

I was recently introduced to an incredible company selling medicinal honey. I know that honey has been used for centuries for natural remedies and a plethora of purposes but I didn’t realize just how transformative it truly was until I read up on Onuku Manuka Honey.
