Let #PCStars #GuidingStarsCA guide you towards healthier food choices

Making healthy food choices can be tricky in the best of times, at least for some of us. Fruits are really popular in our home and usually make up about 30% of our groceries. When it comes to the other stuff though it’s not always easy to figure out what to pick up especially when surrounded by so many options at the grocery store. I was really excited to learn about President Choice’s Guiding Stars program which helps guide you towards healthy eating habits.

I walked into our local Provigo du Marché, which was recently renovated and is beautifully decorated. I could spend an afternoon walking around the sheeshy poo-poo (fancy schmancy) aisles, sampling food that is utterly deliciously or simply inhaling the intoxicating scent of decadent freshly baked breads and pastries.

Right, right…back to healthier food choices. That’s why I was there. I tried to not let the beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes distract me from weighing out (pun intended) the healthier food options available. I realized how easy it was to spot the guiding stars. I was able to easily compare food items based on how many stars they had.guiding stars, pcstars, president's choice, lobalaws, provigo, canadianmomeh

Getting started is really simple. If you shop at a Loblaws brand store then chances are you have already seen the Guiding Stars but may not have known what they mean. It’s a simple formula. 1 star means kind of healthy 2 starts means healthy and 3 stars mean healthier.

The program rates foods based on vitamins, minerals, fibre, whole grains, Omega-3s, saturated fat, trans fat, added sodium and added sugar. “No stars” means, although the food was rated, it didn’t meet the nutrition criteria to earn a star.

Make sure you pick up a PC points card next time you’re in your favourite Loblaws brand store (it’s free) and you can start earning points right away and let the guiding stars guide you to healthier food choices.

DISCLOSURE: I partnered with Loblaws on this post but all opinions are 100% my own.

  1. Sounds like a great program. I’ll have to see if there’s a Loblaws in our area and watch for the stars. You’re right, it can be hard sometimes to sort the hype from the truth and figure out what is the healthiest option. This would definitely help!
