Mont Tremblant The Answer to Your Vacation Dilemma #Tremblant

My childhood memories are filled with family trips to Mont Tremblant, Quebec. We used to make the ninety minute drive up from Montreal, armed with a beach blanket, picnic lunch and a football to toss around. While some things have changed over the years, others have stayed the same. I now enjoy bringing my own family to Mont Tremblant. The fact that it is less than a two hour drive from Ottawa and Montreal, and a short flight from other major cities, makes it that much more enjoyable. You arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to enjoy!

Accomodations:

One of the things I love most about Mont Tremblant is that there is something for everyone and most every budget. Our family has camped, stayed in a log cabin, luxury home, hotel, motel and condo hotel over the years. On my most recent visit I had the pleasure of staying at Ermitage du Lac. A beautiful, modern hotel situated at the foot of the pedestrian village, nestled between two lakes. It was clean, spacious, fully equipped with a pool, hot tub, gym, kids play room, beautiful lobby and UNLIMITED coffee. I may have had a latte or nine while I was there.

In my opinion, a great resort is where they think for you so all you have to do is show up with your clothes and everything else is taken care of. Such is the case with Mont Tremblant. There is even a general store situated mid-mountain in the heart of the Pedestrian village, and it’s very reasonably priced in case you forgot to bring something, or want to load up on extra snacks for your kids.

Activities:

There is literally something to do for every single member of your family. When you vacation you want the kids to have a great time, but you also want to enjoy and relax just as much!

AquaClub La Source:

Everywhere I went, I appreciated the attention to detail. The AquaClub provided locks, towels, floaties, shampoo and hair dryers. When you’re on vacation you don’t want to have to lug all that stuff around. In all my years of visiting Mont Tremblant, I had never visited this glorious water park tucked away in the heart of the village. With a tarzan rope, water slides, sauna, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs you can’t go wrong. The decor is gloriously tropical with palm trees, small bridges over the pool and an indoor splash pad for toddlers.

Rock Climbing:

The gigormous climbing tower is a must for the athletically inclined. You are harnessed and then placed before a behemoth of a tower which you can scale at your own pace. I had no idea I had a mountain climber of a daughter who skillfully scaled the tower five times! There are few things that boost a seven year old’s confidence like skillfully climbing a rock wall and ringing the bell at the top.

The Luge:

You cannot visit Mont Tremblant and not try the luge that winds you down the mountain (think converted toboggan with a steering wheel). It was my daughter’s first time in her own luge, whereas our son rode down with Daddy. The breathtaking aerial view of the mountain is reason enough to go down. I wish I had a helmet cam to record the awe-inspiring mountain scenery. You go down the course at your own pace, racing others or simply taking your time. As the saying goes, one time is never enough!

Euro-Bungy:

Imagine a trampoline, harness and bungee cords. The kids were completely over the moon trying out the Euro-Bungy. They jumped, did back flips and were launched into the mountain air with shrieks of joy and laughter surrounding them. Believe me when I tell you, your children will not want to leave.

Obstacle Course:

The kids had a great time tight rope walking, balancing on a beam and climbing a rope wall all while harnessed and suspended ten feet off the ground. While my seven year old found it a breeze, my five year old found it challenging.

Gondola:

The panoramic gondola is a breathtaking way to take in nature’s beauty and get the perfect aerial view of the village. Ski lifts effortlessly propel you to the mountain’s summit (over 2,800 feet) where you can take in the Bird’s of Prey show or take one of the many hiking trails. If you love scenic landscapes and hiking, this is an absolute must!

Birds of Prey:

It was our family’s first time checking out this show and I would highly recommend it to each of you. The presenters were skillfully trained in ancient art of Falconry. There are few opportunities where you can see bald eagles, black vultures, great horned owl and barn owls all in one location where they’re flying around over head.

Univers Toutou:

My children had a fantastic time building their own toutou’s (stuffed animals) at Univers Toutou near the top of the village. The staff is friendly, warm and helpful and the prices are quite reasonable. It makes a great souvenir! It’s also a fantastic indoor activity if you catch yourself in the middle of a downpour.

Beaches:

Due to unpredictable weather and the abundance of activities we did not get to check out the two beaches this time around. What’s great is that one is a short walk away from the village while the other one is only about a ten minute bike ride (yes, you guessed it, you can rent bikes).

Restaurants:

Mont Tremblant boasts world class restaurants that will tantalize your taste-buds. We had a wonderful meal at Pizzateria on our first night. With ceiling heaters and a wrap around outdoor terrace, it was a great setting for a fun Italian meal.

We enjoyed wonderful food on our vacation, including luxurious Italian cuisine, crêpes that were out of this world and a fun last meal of Québec quintessential classics; poutine, fries, beaver tail (queue de castor), and fresh smoothies. The kids wound up their meal with customized self-serve sundaes. If you’re five and seven years old, nothing says vacation like a do it yourself sundae bar full of any candy your sugared up mind can imagine.

We had an absolutely fantastic time with breathtaking views, amazing activities and delectable cuisine. The kids had barely made it home before asking when we’d go back again! Until next time, Mont Tremblant…

  1. It has been a while since I have been to Mont Tremblant (and it was never in the summer either). Looks like a perfect place to visit for a family vacation. Pizzateria and the poutine is calling my name! The kids can get the toutou’s 😉

  2. I couldn’t agree more! Mont Tremblant is always the natural choice in winter, but it is so great in summer too! One summer we had a rental cabin/cottage but I would definitely upgrade to the resort you’ve described next time! Thanks for such a thorough review … it’s hard to know which activities kids are really going to like and which restaurants to choose because these kinds of things can add up and get expensive, I like to have reviews like this to consult first.

    1. It is! There is so much to do all year long and the foliage in the Fall is just breaktaking. The food was awesome 🙂

      1. Loved reading about your trip. I do have a question – are there any halal food options in the area? We are going soon and although are bringing some groceries would love to find some halal options for dining!

        1. Thanks Farheen. There are no halal food options in the area but there are several vegetarian (and even vegan) friendly options. I would recommend the takeout window at Coco Pazzo. They also have some great options at Pizzeria as well as Spag and Co. Depending on your accommodations you may considering bringing up your own meat. We’ve cooked some taco meat and grilled chicken and brought it up with us in the past allowing us to heat up some quick lunches in our room. Enjoy! Feel free to tweet me any questions you may have.

  3. What an awesome review Fariha! I am going to be around the corner from Tremblant next week. I may take the kids to walk around and for a bite to eat. 🙂

    1. Thank you Patty! Your entire family will have a great time. The Cabriolet from the base of the mountain until half way up is free and amazing to ride! It takes you right up to the area with all the activities.

  4. I really would like to visit Quebec with my family. This looks like a fantastic destination with a lot of activities. I would especially love the gondola ride 🙂

    1. We had a fantastic time Linda and will definitely be going back! I am sure you and your family will enjoy it just as much. Drop me a line if ever you do check it out.

  5. Fantastic pictures – looks like a remarkable experience.
Love the Mont Tremblant area – can’t wait to take my kids one day!

Thank you for coming to share at Travel Tuesday!

  6. Hi Fariha. Thanks for the article. While it was written 5 years ago, I’m curious (as you mentioned that it was a 90-minute drive from Montreal). Would you recommend that a family with 3 kids arriving at Dorval airport should rent a car to reach Tremblant?

    1. Hi Adrien. Thanks for the message. It’s a lovely drive (very scenic in the Fall and summer) but can be slippery in the winter depending on the weather. They do have flights straight to Tremblant now, though I have never flown in. We have done that drive with our kids as infants, toddlers and now pre-teens. It’s a lot of fun!
