aleppo syria, aleppo, syria, what you can do to help, how do we help syrians

#Aleppo is burning. Here’s what you can do to help #Syria

WARNING: The following post contains mature subject matter describing violent atrocities. Reader’s discretion is advised.

Aleppo is burning. The bloodied bodies of frightened, grief stricken children are being pulled from the rubble of crumbled homes or worse, piled on top of towers of decomposing bodies. This is happening right now. The world is watching, in silence. The feeling of despair is permeating my soul. In an age of the global village when information flows freely and access to information is immediate, the world is turning a collective blind eye to the pain and suffering of the remaining people of Aleppo.

World leaders hem and haw while innocent people are being shot point blank, women are raped and children are killed by airstrikes. I am revolted by the thought that this is happening right now. I don’t care about the politics of the situation. I don’t care about who started it. I don’t care about who is right and who is wrong. As a mother I care about the innocent children dying, being murdered and even for those that are living are witnessing atrocities more brutal than our worst nightmares.

As digital citizens it is our responsibility to at the very least spread the word about what is happening. The time for action is now. We cannot be complacent, we cannot afford to turn a blind eye. We need to look a these images full on and act. I have been consumed with the horrors coming out of Syria. I have been consumed with video testimonials of people saying their final goodbyes. Of parents pleading for the world to listen, pleading for the future of their children. Imagine, for one single moment if certain death was at your doorstep. What wouldn’t you do? That is the reality for over 100,000 civilians trapped inside of Aleppo right now with certain death on their doorsteps. The UN held an emergency meeting and a ceasefire was brokered only to last a few hours. The time for citizens of the world to act is NOW.

The following is a list of organizations on the ground doing work. I have not independently verified their work, they are recommendations from people I know personally. Please do your own due diligence. My recommendation is always to find out the administrative fees of those doing the work. You would be astonished at how high those can be sometimes. The time to act is now. I shudder at the thought of children lying injured in pools of their parent’s blood in the middle of the street, beside their homes that have been blown to smithereens. I refuse to sit idly by and do nothing. I’d like you to join me. Help spread the word, do your own research, if your local news agency is not covering these atrocities, write them and demand to know why. Turn to alternative media to get updates, use social media, sign petitions. Here is a good one initiated by local MP Iqra Khalid:

Let’s all do our part. Aleppo needs us NOW.

If you know of other organizations doing good work on the ground in Syria, please leave a comment below. I will try to update this list as I learn of more charities.
